MOM FILES: YOU BROKE MY NOSE!

Ok, no one broke my nose, but I sure thought it was broken. Ever been head butted by a toddler? No? I envy you. It amazes me how these precious little children have rock hard heads. One night while I was in a deep sleep, probably dreaming of a pristine home and well mannered children, I was rudely interrupted by a pain like no other. I was a victim of a night time toddler head butting. The pain was indescribable. Ok, it was like someone hitting a gong in your head while someone else hits you in the face with a bat while someone else shines the sun at its highest point in your face. It hurt so bad, I couldn't even cry.  I just knew, any moment now, my nose was going to open the floodgates for the crimson tide. It never came. I also knew that rings were starting to form under my eyes which would further prove my case. That also didn't happen. It really took everything in me not to throw my toddler across the room. My husband barely noticed. The next morning when I went to brush my teeth, my sinuses felt like someone lit a fire in them. You ever burp after drinking a soda and it burns in your nose? Imagine that magnified  x100! It was the absolute worst experience of my life, so far. Perhaps I should have made this a parenting tip. My tip is to sleep with a helmet on if you plan on allowing your toddler to occupy your bed at night and you have a habit of sleeping on your back!

Have you ever been assaulted by your toddler? Please share. Misery loves company LOL.

DREAM SERIES: CHARLES RAMSEY WANNABE

I want to preface this by saying I believe all of these people being found that were kidnapped years ago is taking a toll on my psyche.

It was night time and the kids had just had their baths.  For some reason, Andy decided to run outside completely naked and giggling.  Daniel quickly took chase because we were concerned about him getting sick. Unfortunately, that wouldn't be the worst of our worries. To our surprise, there were a group of older black people that were ready to attack.  The men quickly knocked Daniel down while the women snatched Andy. I start to run towards the women when all of a sudden, my feet were stuck to the ground.  No matter how hard I tried to pull my legs up, my feet wouldn't budge. And just like that, my baby was gone.  By some miracle we were finally able to move again and I just followed the direction in which they went. Didn't take long to find them, I guess dream world time goes fast.  It was daytime so I'm assuming this was the next day.  Of course, the group put up a fight.  The men quickly rushed me and started trying to hit me.  All of a sudden I must have become a master street fighter because I was able to knock them all out of the picture.  Upon rescuing my son, I realized they were in the middle of taking two more kids, a girl and a boy.  the girl broke free and ran home I assumed.  I grabbed the boy and headed home.  While we were walking home, yes we were walking, he told me how abusive they were and I told him he was safe now.  By some miracle we found his family and they arrived at my house the next day. While the boy was playing in our pool, his family came in and I was overwhelmed by the reunion. I mean, I cried hard in my dream. I held both my son and the other child and just cried. I'm surprised I didn't wake up in tears.

So what does this mean, if anything? It truly breaks my heart to know that this happens way too often. I want my kids to be able to run to the corner store for snacks or to walk home with their friends, but the reality of our world seems too scary to allow that.  I just don't understand why people think they are entitled to take or abuse someone because they refuse to ignore a feeling.  How weak is that?

DIY OVERLOAD

Lately I've been so into DIY on a site called Pinterest.  It just amazes me how creative people can be!  I barely watch television these days because I'm constantly wondering what project to try.  Deep within I know I have a super crafty alter-ego just waiting to bust out.  I want to go to every yard sale. I want to find great deals at all the thrift stores. I want to be able to see some scraps on the street and turn it into a masterpiece!

I've been wanting to create something for a while, but never acted on it until this week.  I pulled out my old sewing machine, skyped with an amazing seamstress and figured out how to get it working.  Now, none of my projects are perfect, but they are loved and appreciated by those whom they were created for.  That's all that matters.

First up were a pair of panties for my daughter.  She was not feeling this idea at all!  I was inspired from  here.  I just thought these were very feminine and looked comfortable.  What girl doesn't want a drawer full of pretty panties, whether you wear them or not? Anyway, here is my imperfect creation:
Guess what? She loved them! She decided to try them on while everyone was asleep and told me they were the most comfortable pair she's ever had! That was a proud moment for me. Of course the edges aren't the neatest, but hey, it was just an experiment.  I'm sure my future panties will be more spectacular.

My next accomplished project was a sock monkey. I got the idea from here. My kids loved helping me stuff them and pick out the eyes.  Of course, they aren't perfect.  My old sewing machine decided to act up on me so I ended up sewing 95% of the first one by hand and 100% of the second one by hand.  My hand sewing isn't that great either, but we made it.  Also, the first sock monkey only has one arm and the second doesn't have a tail yet because I got tired.  They are works in progress and we hope to be able to make some to donate to a children's hospital.

I'm just so happy to feel inspired and actually do something about it.  Hopefully I'll be redecorating furniture in the near future because that's what I really want to do.  Baby steps.

MOM FILES: GUILTY THOUGHTS

Am I the only one who gets upset when their child gets sick on the weekend?  I mean, why couldn't that fever have started on Thursday?  That way, I wouldn't have to go to work!  We could chill at home for a couple of days.  By the time the weekend comes, you'll be alright and we can continue our weekend lives like nothing ever happened.

I ENTERED A STORY CONTEST!!!!!

I entered a story contest.  I have always wanted my children's stories to get published, so I entered this contest  in parenting magazine with hopes that this may be my lucky day.  Check out the link HERE and enjoy.

GREAT MOM DEBATE

I'm sure if you're a parent, you can relate to this scenario:

It's hot as hell outside, but it's late at night and you've just showered.  Then you have the great debate, do I go to bed with pajamas, or do I sleep naked?  So you decided to half and half it, push the covers to the edge of the bed, blast the fan directly at your face and call it a night.  Only to be interrupted after what seems to only be about 2 minutes worth of sleep by a soft voice from down the hall sweetly calling out, "Mommy?"  Then you debate whether or not to answer the calling of your precious toddler.  If you ignore it, it might go away.  All of a sudden you hear their blankets rustling and feet hit the floor followed by a more urgent calling of, "Mommy!"  So you yell out, "Everything is ok. Go back to bed."  But its too late and they are already at the side of the bed.  Now you're dreading the inevitable skin to skin contact you are about to be faced with because your precious little toddler has now climbed in your bed and seems to be consuming every open space available between you and your spouse and you just want to melt from the heat.  Then you remember your partially nude, so you, again, debate whether or not to cover up or just let it hang?

Really, No More School Buses?

I chit chat on a fairly regular basis with my mother and she told me that they were no longer going to use school buses to transport students throughout lausd. Say what now? Soooo they pretty much want kids to stay in their communities to learn, which would be good, however, many inner city schools don't have enough resources to achieve this goal. Further more, many parents send their kids out of their neighborhood because it's just not safe! So now my little brother has to face an inevitable encounter with gang members going to the neighborhood school, or by riding public transportation to the valley. That's not to say the children shouldn't have their own drive and will to make something of themselves, but when they don't know what's out there for them, they become products of their environments.

Why are so many resources being taken away from our children? It's like they want people to stay poor and uneducated. Why, so they can build more prisons?  They think that we don't care about our children's future? Is that it? If that was the case, we wouldn't send our kids to other cities to be taught where we know they will actually learn and have the tools to do so!  All I'm saying is stop taking away from our children! They have to run our country later and I don't want any dumbasses in charge while I'm still around! Ok I already know we have some of those, but just imagine how much worse it could be.

Don't Judge Me

Well today I had the pleasure of spending quality time with my my niece and nephew along with my children, of course.  I managed to survive feeding them breakfast without any problems, but lunch posed a problem.  We had to go to the grocery store. I get nervous when I travel alone with multiple kids, including when I just have mine! So, everyone was looking at me walking around with five kids, yes five, wondering if all these kids belong to me. I just laughed inside because I knew they weren't and they all look drastically different.  A few people were brave enough to ask and I just replied they are all in my crew, but they all aren't mine. My niece said they probably think she and my son are adopted, Lol.  For those that  don't know, they are my chocolate drops while the other are a bit more on the vanilla side. Anyway, I noticed something that I didn't expect. A lot of the African American people had a look of shame or disgust on their face. I guess they assumed the whole brewed was mine, which must mean I have multiple baby daddies, and possibly I am on welfare too! Shame on them! And even if they were all mine I'm not asking them to pay for this grocery trip! How dare they judge me as assume I fit the stereotype of a young mom with multiple kids using the system to get by. Now some may ask how do I know they ere making these types of assumptions, well this lady looked at us, scrounged up her face, and walked to another check out line.  The Caucasian people seemed more sympathetic to my situation. This lady looked like she was ready to pay for our food, on second thought, maybe I should have told her they were all mine. Anyway, why are some people so quick to judge and they have no clue what's really going on?  On a lighter note, I wonder if I looked good for being a mom of five?

NOW THAT I'M A MOM

Now that I'm a mom several things in my life have changed.  As luck would have it, I went up four sizes after the birth of each of my children, I have three and I started off at a 1, you do the math!  Not only has my appearance been altered, but my thought process has changed as well.   Now these changes aren't all bad, but sometimes i must be convinced that they are good!

I remember as a child when kids would make fun of my mother, I would get pissed. How dare you talk about my mother, you don't know her! Then I would go home and tell her thinking she'd be ready to go to school with me so we could bang on these kids, but I was wrong. She was never bothered by it and that frustrated me even more. How could she not care about these people saying such harsh things? She always said: "Well you know it's not true so who cares what they say?"  Now that I'm a mom I could care less what some snotty nosed kids have to say about me, or anyone else for that matter!

I also remember being embarrassed by my mother. She was not a commercial mom by any means. She was eccentric and had dread locks when they were frowned upon. She wore weird clothes and dated foreigners. Oh why did my mom have to be so different? Well, now that I'm a mom, I can't wait until my kids are embarrassed by me! Sounds weird, but I'm just waiting for the moment my kids want to act cool around their friends, oh I'm going to lay it on thick, whatever IT is that embarrasses them!

I am not an aggressive person by any means. However, since I've become a mom, I believe I can take on an army if I had to in order to protect my children.

Patience is my middle name, and guess who is my kind of game! It's not all good though.  For example,  example, last night my youngest woke up at 1 a.m. screaming and hollering for about an hour.  To make matters worse, he was head butting me like crazy and pulling my hair out! Yeah,  I wanted to put him outside so someone else could take him.  So, now that I'm a mom, I sometimes want to give up my title!

I decided to ask my friends how becoming a mom has effected them and this is some of what I got:
-My size 9 clothes no longer fit!
-I worry
-I care about things like sugar content, movie ratings or whether the gym I want to attend  has a daycare.
-I'm slower to anger
-All decisions are first based on how it affects my family
-I take myself less seriously
-Something as small as a smile can make my day
-I look to befriend people with children...playdates

I can definitely relate to all of those. Do you have any stories about how you have changed now that you're a mom? Please share.

The Beginning

Hello everyone. This is my first attempt at blogging. I am very excited and nervous at the same time. I have been contemplating blogging for a while now. This will be another outlet for me to discuss my feelings and experiences. I plan on discussing everything from my marriage to my children to the crazy lady on the street. I hope I don't offend anyone in the process, but if I do oh well. Feedback is always encouraged. Well, here goes nothing. Be prepared to take a journey inside my mind.
