THEY DID WHAT?

I know it is no longer black history month, but I just have to speak on a situation that occured on February 26 of this year.  During a parade to showcase black heroes at Wadsworth Elementary in Los Angeles, some students were given posters of O.J. Simpson, Dennis Rodman, and Rupaul to hold up. I am totally shocked! The teachers that gave them these posters were three white males who teach first, second, and fourth grades. I cannot believe they had the balls to do such a thing! How dare they make a mockery of something so precious for our children. Our people have taken many great strides and overcome such adversity only to be made fun of during the only month where our achievements are recognized!  We hear about "American" history all year long, let us have our one month of the year!

I don't think they should have just been suspended, I think they should be fired! It's very clear that they do not have our children's best interest at heart. I looked the school up on http://greatschools.org/ and they ranked a 1 out of 10. A one? What in the heck are those kids learning? They sure aren't learning the value of education! They are being set up for failure! Further more, they must not value their jobs in this economy! Teachers are being fired left and right!

Situations like this remind me why I pay for private school.  You know our education system sucks when you can't afford to send your child to public school! I have three children and I take their education very serious. Ask anyone who knows me. My family sometimes think I am too hard on them making them do homework on the weekends and going to real summer school! Society already has it's opinions on African American children, and I'm prepared to prove them all wrong. I do however, believe parents must take a more active role in their children's education. We can't just leave it up to the school to teach them, we have to reinforce the lessons at home. Parents should be tough on these poor performing schools! There is no way they should continue to operate they way they have! There is no way children should not know how to read and comprehend what they are reading by first grade! What happened to the teachers that valued our children's education? What happened to the teachers that want our children to achieve their goals? What happened to teachers that know the sky is the limit? What happened to teaching our children about people like Dr. Vivien T. Thomas who pioneered research in surgical shock and cardiovascular surgery? Or Bessie Blount who pantented a machine that allowed amputees to feed themselves. How about Jan Matzeliger who invented the first shoe making machine? You can check out more of our inventors at http://african-americaninventors.org/

Our chcildren should be proud of their heritage. I have had a personal experience with a less than stellar teacher. My son was briefly ashamed to have brown skin becaue his teacher told him brown was ugly. Unbelievable right? Anyway, that was his last week at that establishment.  I just want my children to be the best they can be and know that no one can hold them back! I just wish everyone felt the same way about their children, teachers included.

  1. I am incensed to hear that such people are allowed to call themselves "teachers". There are always the bad apples that spoil it for the rest of the bunch. However, parents are teachers too. What kind of examples and role models do the children have at home? Good parents can always invalidate and rectify any negative manipulation, prejudice and influence teachers may impose upon kids by using positive reinforcements, taking an interest and an active role in their children's educational activities, and effectively regulating what is being taught to the children. But I am totally with you on this one. Bad teachers should be fired...period. And that is all that I have to say. Tika

  2. Well said Holly. All to often I find myself in schools where all the teacher are white in a black community. They are barking to their students and belittling them not realizing that what they are doing is perpetuating the same history that blacks and whites have had since coming to the so called "new world". I some times wonder if they are even aware of it or if the ignorance is so ingrained. We as a black community have lot of work to do but they have alot more.Chevon

  3. SEE!!!!!!!!!!!!....see what those NO GOOD ass teachers did?!?!?!....this is EXACTLY what i was telling u that "THEY" are doing with our children, and this is why i said u better be/ stay strong sweety...cuz THEY (the media, tv, cartoons...even our very own TEACHERS and other influencial, close..adults) are trying to make our children go down paths of UNSUCCESSFULNESS, DYSFUNCTION, PAIN, CONFUSION, HOMOSEXUALITY..and this list goes on and on. They also want us to NOT be proud of ourselves, and they want us to kill each other. WHY they are doin this, is a whole notha subject, but its all deffinetly a real phenomenom, and we as parants NEED to stay strong, and we need to have a moral foundation, for ourselves AND for ur to pass IT on to our children...we need this now, more than ever.

I mean, look at the overal social climate of our socity right now. Infact, lets JUST look at the school teacher aspect, what a coincidence that now, every time u look, ANOTHER teacher is molesting and havin sex with STUDENTS. The shit is SO COMMON NOW!, they even got open gay teachers, and just last week i saw a story where they LITERALLY had this teacher, who was teachin Highschool (i beleive(, and they found out that he did GAY PORN!, he was a GAY PORN STAR!...and that aint even the half of it, he didnt do it YEARS ago, no...his last movies were in 2010!!.....SCARY!. And i dont even think they fired him after that!!. Now lets think, just 10-20 years ago, u would not even HEAR of this kind of shit!!, JUST DIDNT HAPPEN!. This shit is REAL. And its only gonna get worse and worse. We betta get strong and STAND UP!!...4REAL!!
