LIVE HEALTHIER, EAT FRESHER, GO GREENER!

In an effort to increase our quality of live, we have decided to live healthier, eat fresher and go greener.  This weekend has been very motivating for me, to say the least.  Most people make new year's resolutions, but not me.  I know I can't keep it, so why set myself up for failure?  I'd prefer to make life changes.  With that in mind, my siblings have decided to workout as a family every saturday morning.  Now that's my cup of tea!  I do much better with a partner, and now I have four.  We walked/jogged/ran along the trails located at Kenneth Hahn Park (if you're in the Los Angeles area you know where that is).  I felt so great and energized afterwards I'm so glad I went!  I was able to have my children with me and not feel anxious or irritated.  I don't know if any of you have tried to workout with kids, but it's not easy.  I felt a little sore afterwards, but I definitely feel like that was a great way to kick start my life changes.

*Side note: my two year old son saw a huge golden brown Chow Chow walking by and asked if it was a lion! *

Today, my husband and I decided to check out the Mar Vista farmer's market to purchase some fresh produce.  Besides the normal pickings like greens, onions and potato's, we discovered some interesting things.  First gem was olive oil.  No this wasn't my first time hearing about olive oil, but I wasn't aware of how different the flavor can be if the olive is picked early as opposed to when it's ripe.  Joelle Olive Oil was well worth the buy.

Trying to go vegan? Check out Urban Green L.A. My husband loved their breakfast burrito, although it wasn't vegan, more like lacto/ovo vegetarian.  I tasted it and it was pretty good.  Made me wish I would have gotten that instead of the chicken taco.  They also had this great ginger basil lemonade.  I haven't had the best experience with ginger in a drink, so I was a little apprehensive when I discovered that it wasn't just regular lemonade.  I already had the cup in my hand and it was paid for, but after a sip, I was sold!

You might be wondering what's up with that metal pipe my son is sucking from, huh?  Well it's my awesome straw!  That's right folks, I purchased a reusable straw.  We talk about going green, and I thought this fits right in!  Fortunately for me, that food place didn't have any straws so I purchased this one that I plan on keeping in my purse.  I know some people have to drink out of straws so they could totally save money by buying a stainless steel straw that can be washed and reused.  I got this nifty little gadget along with homemade laundry soap from Refyll

I've been wanting to make my own laundry soap for so long, but hey I guess being able to try it out for a cheaper price than regular laundry detergent can't hurt.  These ladies are so kind and inspiring!  They also carry other products like dish soap and lotion. These purchases were truly the highlight of my day.  I haven't tried it out yet, but I will do a review as soon as possible on the laundry soap.  The greatest part about homemade laundry soap to me, is that less means more.  You don't have to use as much soap in your laundry.  There are less allergens involved in the ingredients.  The packaging is healthier for the environment.  And it costs less than regular laundry detergent. With all these wonderful properties, why not make our own?

Last, but certainly not least, Rita's Roman Recipes slow roasted yellow tomatoes.  We were looking for something to snack on other than cookies, candy, and whatnot.  My husband is a bit more adventurous than me when it comes to food, so once again I was hesitant to try this on toasted french bread.  Let's just say I'm so glad I tried it because it was so delicious!  We wanted to demolish the little bit we purchased on the spot.  We didn't, but hey, it's a great alternative to chips and dip!  I almost forgot to mention I tried brussel sprouts for the first time ever, and they are awesome too!

I'm so glad we got out this morning and discovered all these great things at our farmer's market.  Have you guys discovered anything awesome at your local farmer's market?  If not, please find one and let me  know what's out there!
