"IF I GO TO THEM…WILL THEY ACCEPT ME"
I love talking to my kids because they say the most off the wall things. For example, today my son asked me, "Don't you hate dying?" That threw me off because if you're dead you can't hate anything! After ear hustling some more I discovered he was talking about video games, silly me!
Then the conversation shifted to the killing of Osama Bin Laden. He wanted to know why people were happy we killed him. I explained that people weren't necessarily happy he was dead, but more so relieved that he can no longer cause us any harm. He then mentioned that he heard "those" people might want to kill us now because we killed him. To that I responded that there are a lot of people in the world who do not like Americans. He was curious to know why anyone would dislike us. He said," Why would anyone hate us? What did we do to anyone? We never hurt anybody! And if we did we would apologize!" Oh how young and naive. I'm curious to know how involved he's going to get into history. I said I wasn't sure about us not hurting anyone because I'm sure we have. Then he asked, "If I go to them, wherever they are from, will they accept me?" Now that's a tough one! I told him some people might, just follow the rules. Geez that kid comes with some heavy hitter questions! I'm totally not prepared to answer them. I don't know if I should go all out with the answers or keep it super simple. His mind just keeps going and sometimes I don't want to get into these deep conversations with him. Don't get me wrong, I love him dearly and I love how he's eager to learn, I just need a thinking break more often than he understands. Anyway, I just thought it was so cute how he was defending his country.
