My sister invited me to have a colonic a few months ago. Sounded like a scary concept initially, but I didn't totally dismiss the idea. Then two weeks ago she asked again, enticing me by saying we could have a clean colon for out birthday, so I said "SIGN ME UP!"
I was nervous and the days passed for my upcoming event. I wasn't too concerned with the fact that a tube was going to be inserted in my rectum because when I had my appendix removed last year I had to have a rectal ct scan where a tube was inserted and liquid, same concept here. I also checked out some reviews for this place on yelp and they were all excellent, so that added to my comfort. Anyway, I tried to prepare myself, as laughable as that sounds, by avoiding processed foods and not eating a couple of hours before my appointment.
I arrived a bit earlier than my sister and was greeted by a nice, upbeat woman. The office seemed dark, perhaps because my appointment was at 6pm. Long dark drapes covered the windows facing the street. There was a coffee table littered with business cards and propaganda. Since she was still with another client, my husband kept me company until my sister came. Of course we were given forms to fill out about our medical history and a waiver to sign. Seeing as how both my sister and I were hesitant to decide who goes first, the lady chose me.
Terrified of finding out the truth, I reluctantly walked over to the scale to be weighed. It was worse than I though, let's just say that! Then I was escorted to a back room and was told what the process entailed. I was then led to the restroom where I was given a gown, socks, and instructions on how to use toilet. The toilet had a bidet connected to it and the seat was heated. Some might see this as a germ breeding ground, but she is very diligent about cleaning the restroom after each client.
I made my way back into the room and faced the moment of truth, the insertion. For this procedure you have to insert the tube yourself, but she helps. Really, it was more like her inserting the tube, but your hand is on her hand, I guess for liability reasons. Anyway, it took a couple of deep inhales to get it in place then I was instructed to lay on my back, knees up where I would remain for the rest of the session.
Water was then pushed into my colon, which you don't even realize its in there until it warms up. This went on for about 15 mins when she finally stopped the flow of water and I began to "release." Although I did not initially release anything except gas. I swear you don't realize just how much gas you have until you have something like this done. After a few more fill and release attempts, I finally had a real release! It wasn't as gross as I thought it was going to be. Clearly there was a change in the color and few particles, nothing that would make you nauseous or anything. I honestly don't know what I was expecting, but it wasn't that. After a while, I would feel full with the water and it felt good to release. This process went on for 45 mins. When my time was up I had the poop of my life! It was spectacular! Once again I was weighed and I actually lost a pound. I was given coconut water and a probiotic pill to take and waited for my sister to repeat the process.
When it was all said and done, I was told I had a great session for my first time because some people don't release at all. I learned that chewing gum on a regular basis causes a lot of gas. I learned that when you are dehydrated you can actually gain weight after this process because your body holds on to fluids because of what was released. I was also told not all hydro colon cleanse machines are the same. Apparently the kind used on me what the most gentle machine out there at this time. In the reviews, people who had them done elsewhere said this place was the best and most gentle.
I will definitely do this again. I didn't do this to lose weight. I did this because I am not regular and I can only imagine what's chilling in my colon. There is no way to totally clean out your colon in one session, nor am I trying to give myself a squeaky clean colon, I am simply hoping to reset my colon so that I can be more regular. My abdomen is sore today, which I was told to expect. I feel like I've done a million crunches. It was worth it.
I'd recommend this place to anyone! It's called COLON ROLLIN' located in Los Angeles. Mary is who provides the service. She is down to earth and open about her story. She stays by your side the entire time and makes sure you at ease at all times. You have the freedom to end the session whenever you please.
